Biography

Tesfaye Bekele (b. 1982) is an Ethiopian contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores memory, displacement, spirituality, and the layered histories of Ethiopia and its diaspora. Working across painting, drawing, printmaking, and mixed media, Bekele often incorporates symbolic imagery, text, and gestural abstraction to reflect on political struggle, cultural survival, and personal identity. His work draws from Ethiopian visual traditions while engaging global modernist and contemporary languages, creating compositions that balance introspection with social critique. Through material experimentation and narrative layering, Bekele positions art as a space for reflection, resistance, and historical reckoning.
