Hyacinthe Ouattara

Hyacinthe Ouattara (born 1981, Burkina Faso) is a Burkinabè artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores memory, matter, human connection, and the place of the body within the universe. Working across textile sculpture, installation, painting, and drawing, Ouattara examines emotional memory, anatomy, and organic transformation through knotting, layering, cartographic figuration, and materially dense abstraction.  Ouattara is largely self-taught, though sources note training in live model drawing, graffiti, and painting, as well as workshop-based formation in Burkina Faso. His work often engages ancestral memory, texture, cellular form, and “human cartographies,” using fabric, thread, spontaneous painterly gesture, and sculptural construction to consider how bodies, spirits, and histories remain linked through material form.  His work has been exhibited at 193 Gallery, Ronewa Art Projects, Galerie DuflonRacz, the Dakar Biennale, the Congo Biennale, and the 15th Bienal de La Habana. Ouattara lives and works in Paris, France.
