Biography

Beverly McIver (1962- ) is an American painter. She is known for her self-portraits, where she casts herself as various characters.  Much of her subject matter deals with depression, poverty, illness, death, and the life of her disabled older sister and McIver's role as her caretaker.  McIver received her BA in Painting and Drawing from North Carolina Central University in 1987 and her MFA in Painting and Drawing from Pennsylvania State University in 1992. She received an Honorary Doctorate from North Carolina Central University in 2007.
