Roxane Mbanga

Roxane Mbanga (born 1996, Paris, France) is a Guadeloupean, Cameroonian, and French multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores the body, migration, displacement, and colonial rupture. Working across installation, film, photography, textile, writing, and performance, Mbanga examines plural identity and embodied memory through storytelling, spatial construction, and research into the lived and perceived body.  Mbanga studied in the Fashion Design Department at Gerrit Rietveld Academie, graduating in 2021. Her work often engages Black womanhood, public space, intimacy, geographies of belonging, and intersecting gazes, using fashion, moving image, graphic design, batik, performance, and participatory gathering formats to consider how identity is shaped across different cultural and social contexts.  Her work has been exhibited at 193 Gallery, Maison des Mondes Africains, Fondation H, San Mei Gallery, the National Museum of Cameroon, and the Van Gogh Museum. She has received the Lichting Award and the Rietveld Review(ed) Award. Roxane Mbanga is based in Paris, with earlier recent exhibition histories also tied closely to Amsterdam.
