Biography

Arthur Jafa (1960- ) is an American film artist and cinematographer. His work explores the realities, constructions, and influence of Blackness in contemporary culture in the United States and abroad. He debuted as a cinematographer with Daughters of the Dust along with director Julie Dash and production designer Kerry James Marshall.  Jafa studied film and architecture at Howard University in 1983 before relocating to Los Angeles, California.
