Exhibition Description
Project Atrium: Nari Ward — Great Greetings features a new exhibition by Nari Ward that transforms MOCA Jacksonville’s atrium into what the museum describes as a “shimmering space of gold and silver.” Using everyday emergency blankets, Ward creates an immersive installation in which metallic surfaces drape the walls and hang overhead as pennants, surrounding visitors with a heightened atmosphere of brilliance, fragility, and unease. MOCA Jacksonville, 333 North Laura Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202. March 5, 2026 — Runs through August 16, 2026. The installation’s emotional complexity comes from the way Ward layers materials and language. The emergency blankets, associated with crisis survival and bodily care, are cut with handwritten phrases drawn from greeting-card categories such as “Condolences,” “Kids,” and “Thinking of You.” Beneath them, pink newspaper excerpts from the Financial Times expose the role of the marketplace, setting mass-produced sentiment against lived emotional reality. MOCA emphasizes that Ward’s larger practice transforms found objects by drawing out the narratives and memories embedded within them, and Great Greetings does exactly that: it turns a familiar architectural space into a meditation on care, ritual, social pressure, and the uneasy distance between public language and real feeling.
