Biography

Jean-Claude "Tiga" Garoute (1935-2006) was a Haitian painter and sculptor. His paintings are abstract, often featuring broad brushstrokes and muted colors. Garoute often used the "Solèy Brulé" method in his work, a mixture of ink and acid.  He co-founded the Saint-Solei school, a Haitian art school that focused on naïve painting.
