Biography

Hank Willis Thomas (1976- ) is an American conceptual artist. His work focuses on identity, commodity, media, and popular culture. In recent years he his practice has grown to include mirrors and reflective vinyl to challenge perspectives in his work. Thomas wants viewers to consider who is included in history and who is erased, illuminating the bias of history. Thomas received his BFA in Photography and Africana studies from New York University in 1998. He received his and an MFA in Photography and Visual Criticism from the California College of the Arts in 2004.
