Biography

Didier William (1983- ) is a Haitian painter. His large paintings explore the intersection of myth, personal history, and Haitian narratives. Many of the figures in his work have eyes on their entire bodies, resisting classification by either race or gender. He is interested in the spaces diasporaic Black and queer communities occupy and how their identities are formed.  William received his BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2007. He received his MFA in painting and printmaking from Yale University School of Art in 2009.
