Biography

Candace Hunter is an American multidisciplinary artist, curator, writer, and water-rights activist whose practice explores race, memory, environmental justice, and historical reconstruction. Working across collage, installation, performance, archival research, and social practice, Hunter examines how histories of Black migration, climate crisis, and systemic inequality intersect. Her work frequently engages the Great Migration, speculative futures, and the lived realities of environmental displacement, positioning art as both a research tool and a site of civic engagement. Hunter is also a cultural worker deeply invested in community-building and advocacy, particularly around water access and ecological justice. She has been recognized as a 3Arts Awardee and has exhibited widely in Chicago and nationally.
