Biography

Awol Erizku (1988- ) is an Ethiopian-born American contemporary multidisplinary artist working across painting, photography, sculpture, and film. Much of his work references spirituality, art history, and hip-hop. He works from a self-developed, "Afro-esoteric” that seeks to bridge the gap between African and African American visual lexicons.  Erizku received his BFA from The Cooper Union in 2010 and his MFA from the Yale School of Art in 2014.
