Odili Donald Odita: Songs from Life
Odili Donald Odita: Songs from Life is a large-scale, site-specific commission by Nigerian-American artist Odili Donald Odita, transforming the main lobby of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) with vibrant geometric patterns and color. Music serves as a primary source of inspiration for the work.

Odili Donald Odita: Songs from Life is on view at MoMA in New York from April 8, 2025 through February 21, 2027.
Exhibition Description
Odita’s largest commission to date brings together abstraction, music, African and African American textile traditions, and references to his Nigerian heritage. Executed in flat acrylic latex paint, the installation creates a cascading, immersive environment of geometric forms and bright colors. Each section is connected to music that influenced Odita, emphasizing themes of freedom, change, community, and the human experience.
