Biography

Torkwase Dyson (1973- ) is an American multidisciplinary artist working across drawing, painting, installation, sculpture, and sound. Her work is inspired by her theory of Black Compositional Thought. Describing herself as a painter, her abstract works explore the relationship between continuity between ecology, infrastructure, and architecture and how black and brown people negotiate space.   Dyson received her BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1999. She received her MFA in painting/printmaking from Yale School of Art in 2003.
