Biography

Rhea Leonard (born 1991, South Florida) is a Miami-based African American multidisciplinary artist whose work spans drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and textile-based mark-making. Her practice centers the Black body, memory, trauma, and healing, using figurative imagery and material experimentation to explore how systemic violence, personal experience, and cultural history shape identity. Leonard often expands the language of drawing through sewn, beaded, and tactile surfaces that embody care, vulnerability, and resilience. She holds a BFA from New World School of the Arts and an MFA from Florida International University, and is currently a resident artist at Bakehouse Art Complex.
