Biography

Duwane Coates is a contemporary Cuban-American artist whose work spans painting, photography, film, and conceptual practice. His art investigates themes of migration, neo-Black identity, and the lived experiences of Afro-Cuban and diasporic subjects, confronting issues of racism, displacement, memory, and cultural belonging. Through evocative imagery and narrative-driven work, Coates situates personal and communal histories within broader socio-political contexts, using his mixed media practice to challenge and reimagine representations of identity and heritage.
